Sometimes people fear that their life stops being fulfilling
when they need to enter a nursing home. Perhaps you’re worried
that your loved one won’t make friends or have anything to do.
And, if you’re like most, you may have some preconceived notions
of what you’ll find in a nursing home. Well, we’re not
just “any” nursing
home, and we work hard to make this a special place for all of our
residents and families. Here a few of our residents’ favorite
things to do:

Each month Miss Priscilla and Miss Prudence
(two very proper ladies who “visit” from our staff), host a tea party for 60-70 of their closest friends. Everyone comes dressed in their favorite finery, complete with fancy dresses, extravagant hats, and, of course, white gloves. After enjoying a lovely tea with exquisite desserts, everyone listens to the ladies play piano and tell stories about their “colorful” lives.

We have some pretty avid sports fans here! Whether your favorite team is the Tigers, Lions, or
Red Wings, you’ll have lots of company watching the games and cheering them on. When one
of our local teams makes the playoffs, we really get excited—decorating the halls, wearing
our team colors, and making predictions about who’s going to win (Detroit, of course).
It’s a lot of fun for everyone!

Everyone needs a little change
of scenery once in a while. Our residents love to eat out (Hooters
is one of our favorites—for the chicken wings, of course), visit Belle Isle, watch cider being made at Blake’s Orchard, check out the holiday lights, and visit special places like Frankenmuth. Our facility’s
van really gets a workout with all of the places we go! We make
it a practice to do something at least once a week, weather permitting.
For
a complete list of all we do, please ask the Activity Director
for a copy of the monthly calendar. Family members and friends
are always welcome to come and participate in any of our activities—your
family member would love to see you and we would, too.

At MediLodge of Sterling Heights,
we love to have people visit. In fact, we love it so much that
we host several events each year for our residents, their families,
and our community. These events are wonderful—bringing together
people of all ages in family-centered activities that everyone
enjoys. There’s more to learn about what
we do on our Special
Events page, so you’ll
want to check it out!
